ClariVein: Treatment of Venous Incompetence

Precision VIR is proud to be one of the few centers in DFW to use this state-of-the-art technology. This new device is a treatment utilizing endovenous treatment (treatment inside the vein), in conjunction with chemical ablation. It also employs a new approach, that of mechanical ablation, hence the term mechanochemical ablation.

What Are the Benefits of ClariVein?

The mechanochemical (ClariVein) ablation has several impressive advantages over other minimally invasive vein treatments:

  • Painless procedure
  • Smaller catheters and incision site
  • No need for tumescent anesthesia which decreases procedure time and amount of pain related to tumescent injection
  • Reduced risk of nerve damage that is a potential small risk of other procedures

What Happens with a ClariVein Procedure?

This procedure involves the insertion of the patented ClariVein catheter into the vein using ultrasound guidance. The catheter is then advanced with ultrasound guidance to the proper place in the vein, similar to the endovenous ablation procedure. Once in place, a small attached motor is activated spinning the catheter which is in a “L” shape. The wire at the tip is spun at 3600 revolutions per minute. A chemical sclerosant is injected through the catheter into the vein from the tip of the catheter. The combined mechanochemical actions of the catheter disrupts the lining of the vein and also precisely damages the inside vein wall. The end result is rapid closure of the treated vein with the vein no longer able to pool with blood and eventually disappearing over time.

96% success rate ClariVeinThe results in the first 3 years of experience in both Europe and the United States have been excellent with success rates (closure rate) reported to be in the range of 96%. One of the vascular specialists at Precision VIR will determine if ClariVein is the best treatment for your specific vein diagnosis.
